Cash-back offers that seem to be too good to be true or overly rewarding are a sign to stay vigilant!

How does this fraud happen?

  • You may receive an SMS/WhatsApp message providing cashback offers and asking you to click on a fictitious link.
  • If you click on the fictitious link, it will ask for your login details/account credentials/OTP or it will redirect you to download an APK screen sharing file through which the fraudster may get access to your mobile device and lead to compromising your account credentials.

Here’s how you can stay safe:

  • Avoid tapping links in text messages. They could lead to fake websites!
  • Do not download suspicious .APK files on your mobile devices.
  • Think twice before sharing any sensitive details like OTP, account credentials, card numbers, passwords, etc.
  • Do not click on links received from unknown sources/sender IDs.
  • Verify with your bank on receiving an offer related information.
  • Log in to the respective merchant website to know the actual offers.
