This October, immerse yourself in the cultural, artistic, musical, and literary hues of India
As you enter the month of October, you enter the month of a diverse range of festivals and celebrations across the country. And whether you’re excited to celebrate Diwali in all its glory at the Golden Temple by taking a trip to Amritsar with your family or dressing up as your favourite character for Halloween with your friends, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this month. But that’s not all! October also brings with it an abundance of fests and events that showcase India’s culture, art, and heritage in all its different hues. Hence, it is the perfect time to break free from the daily monotony of life and plan a trip to soak in the rich experience that the country has to offer.
Planning an enriching getaway this October
Be it a solo trip or one with your family or friends, one of the first things to do before you begin planning is to take stock of your financial health. Firstly, you need to consider the budget that would be feasible for your trip. Next, you need to assess how you are going to finance your trip. Are you going to make use of your Diwali bonus at work, if you have one, or are you going to dip into your savings? If you don’t have the first option and the second is one you don’t feel comfortable doing, then taking an online personal loan for travel can be helpful.
A personal loan for travel, also known as a travel loan, is one of the most convenient loans to get out there. It requires no collateral, you can apply for it online with minimal documentation, and the funds are disbursed quickly. But the best part? There are no restrictions on how you use the funds from the travel loan! So, everything from buying luggage bags and clothes for your trip to booking flight tickets and paying for accommodation – the travel loan has you covered! Once you have narrowed down on how you will finance your trip, it’s time to get to the exciting part and begin planning. Depending on the length of the trip you are planning, you can either pick one city hosting an event or festival that most excites you or plan a cross-country trip with multiple cities. Let’s begin by looking at everything happening in India in October 2022!
Festivals and places to truly experience India's diversity
Does the idea of a travelling folk music festival that celebrates Bhakti, Nirgun, and Sufi poets like Kabir, Mirabai, Gorakhnath, and Shah Lateef sound enticing to you? Then make sure to attend the Rajasthan Kabir Yatra this year! Its sixth edition begins on 2nd October from Udaipur and would travel across Kumbhalgarh, Chittorgarh, and Bhilwara to stop at Jaipur on 9th October.
If you want to witness grand Dussehra celebrations this year or experience a different way of celebrating, take your pick! On October 5, you can go to Delhi for Ramleela or enjoy the end of the 10-day Dussehra carnival held in Mysore, Karnataka, or head to Himachal Pradesh for its Kullu Dussehra fair, among many other places that celebrate the festival in their own unique way.
RIFF, held at Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort, is endorsed by UNESCO as “People’s Platform for Creativity and Sustainable Development”. This festival showcases Rajasthan’s rural musician communities and rich music heritage. This year, the festival is being held from 6th to 10th October.
Also known as Maand, the Marwar Festival is celebrated in Jodhpur, Rajasthan during the full moon days of Sharad Poornima to remember and celebrate Rajasthan’s warrior kings and princes. So, if you want to enjoy Rajput folk music and dance in glorious palaces like Umaid Bhavan and forts like Mehrangarh Fort, head to Jodhpur on the 12th and 13th October.
The Khushwant Singh Literary Festival is held in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh to celebrate and promote the legacy of legendary author, scholar, and journalist Khushwant Singh. Every year, there is a specific theme, this year’s being ‘Climate of Change’ and there are several writers and literary figures that are invited as speakers. This year, the festival is being held from 14th to 16th October.

IAF is an art fair and a model that brings together artists, art galleries, art dealers, art buyers, architects, and interior designers every year. So, if you fancy yourself an art connoisseur, make sure to attend IAF’s Delhi edition from 13th to 16th October or its Mumbai edition from 28th to 30th October.
If this year, you want to celebrate Diwali a little differently or experience the festival in a new light, you can head to Ayodhya for its Deepotsav on October 23 where the city is going to light 14.5 lakh diyas. Or you can visit Amritsar to be a part of the grand Diwali celebrations at the Golden Temple on October 24. For a post-Diwali celebration, you can head to Varanasi on November 7 for Dev Deepawali, which is celebrated 15 days after Diwali.
Held in the scenic hill station of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, the Tawang festival is a four-day celebration honouring tribal culture, Buddhist traditions, and the rich diversity of Northeast India. This year, the festival is going to be held from 26th to 29th October.
What to keep in mind when travelling for these festivals and eventst
With deep-rooted culture and tradition come certain practices, beliefs, customs, and superstitions that you should make sure to be aware of before you visit any of the above cities. It’s important to remember that you don’t need to be religious to be respectful.
You should also pay attention to your travel wardrobe because you may need to wear ethnic clothing appropriate for these festivals. If the weather of the city you live in is different from the place you’re visiting, make sure to pack things that you will require for a safe and comfortable journey.
Also, while taking those Insta-worthy pictures is a rite of passage for any trip, make sure to be cognizant of where you can and cannot take pictures and videos. For instance, some temples may not allow photography. Instead, you can capture your outfit of the day/night, the external architecture of the temple, and its surroundings to still get your snaps.

Wrapping up
Whatever place you decide to visit this festive season, the experience is sure to enrich your life and may also add a new perspective to it. To make sure that once you return from your trip you don’t face any financial constraints, do plan a well-thought-out travel itinerary along with a sound budget. This will help you enjoy your trip without any financial anxiety and return home without any financial stress.
This is also why you should ensure to use a personal loan EMI calculator before you apply for a travel loan. This calculator will help you calculate the Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) that you will have to pay when repaying the loan. By using a personal loan EMI calculator, you can plan the trip in a budget that is comfortable for you. Since the personal loan eligibility is basic, you don’t need to spend a lot of time figuring out how to apply for the loan either.
This option is also better than emptying your savings because you don’t want to be in a position where you return from your trip and have zero money in your bank account. A travel loan will space out the expense of your trip so that it doesn’t impact your lifestyle, your miscellaneous financial commitments, or your savings and allows you to stay on track with your other financial goals.
